The NSTA Career Center

Looking to make a career change? Need dynamic science teachers for your school district? NSTA’s new online Career Center at careers.nsta.org provides job listings from around the nation, a place to post resumes, and tips for landing that dream position.

Finding the perfect job

Job seekers can browse a list of job postings or post their resumes online. To post a resume, you must first complete a one-time registration. Simply click on the “Registration Form” link and complete a short form. Once you are logged in, you will see an area marked “My Resumes” and a link to click on to create a resume.

Once you begin creating a resume, you can stop, save, edit, and preview it at any time. Your resume will not be visible to potential employers until you activate it. The resume builder contains the following 10 sections:

  • Resume Title
  • Personal Information
  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Skills
  • Awards and Achievements
  • Additional Info
  • Target Job
  • Confidentiality
  • Review and Activation

If you would like to conduct a discreet job search, you can hide parts of your resume from general view. In the “Confidentiality” section, simply select “Visible” or “Hidden” for personal information, e-mail address, and present employer. If an employer wishes to contact you, they will have the option of sending a blind e-mail.

Visitors to the site who do not wish to create and post a resume may browse a list of job postings at any time. You do not need to register to view the job postings, and you do not need to be a member of NSTA.

Job seekers will also find various other resources at the Career Center, including resume-writing tips, interview strategies, and information about planning a career in science education.

Hiring the right teacher

The “Employers” area of the website allows potential employers to post jobs and view resumes. Employers must register to use the site. Click on “Registration Form” to do so. Once you have logged in, you may view resumes by title or by date edited. You may also filter resumes by state. There is a charge of $20 per month to browse resumes, but employers may browse for free if they have a paid job listing on the site. The fee for posting a job is $130 per month, which is payable by credit card.
